Margie Gorman Taylor (1961)
Communications
Class of 1961 | Inducted 2025
Margie Gorman Taylor is a Corsicana native, Corsicana High School 1959 graduate, and Navarro College 1961 graduate. At Navarro, she found the encouragement and education for a lifelong career in the arts and in business. She was active in Future Business Leaders, was Art Editor, Student Senate, on the Tennis Team and Senorita Drill Team. During her time at Navarro, she was honored as Homecoming Queen, Who’s Who, Valentine Queen, and Miss NJC.
Moving to Dallas, she worked for Edwards, Sowell & Padgett law offices and received her real estate license. She met Ted Taylor, who worked at WFAA TV and they married in 1968. They moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where they owned and operated WEZY AM & FM radio stations. It was an exciting time to be a news leader - broadcasting the Apollo space shots in real time and being able to view lift-offs from the news bleachers. In 1978, they were called to Dallas to manage the family-owned metroplex and community newspapers. They owned General Aviation News, which had an airplane, so she earned her private pilot license to fly Ted to staff meetings around the state.
They spent a lot of time in the plane - traveling to her first Plein Air Paint Out in Lyme, Connecticut, trips to California, passing around the Golden Gate Bridge, Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida, several Bahama Islands, and many other places throughout the U.S.
In 2001, they retired and moved to Corsicana to the JTJ Ranch on Richland Chambers Lake. Margie became active locally in the Commemorative Air Force Coyote Squadron as Public Information Officer, Vice President of Navarro Council of the Arts, Advisory to The Pearce, on The Palace Theatre Board, a member of the Corsicana Art League and Outdoor Painters Society, and First Baptist Church of Corsicana.
During all these years, she and Ted had three wonderful children, and they now have nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
