Liston Herod, Jr. and Peggy Hamilton Herod have lived a life of service to others. They have both dedicated their lives to their church, their family, their community, and the school they loved so well.
Liston and Peggy attended Navarro Junior College, graduating in 1960 and 1961. They were both active in leadership roles, including Student Government and United Christian Fellowship. Liston was in the Marching Bulldog Band, and Peggy was on the Homecoming Court and Senoritas. Their time at Navarro was instrumental in building a foundation for success. They often shared their love of all things Navarro with their family, friends, business colleagues, and students. After Navarro, Liston and Peggy were married and then graduated from Sam Houston State University - Liston in 1962 and Peggy in 1963. They returned to Corsicana to build their life together.
Liston was a great community leader and served in many capacities in Corsicana. Not only was he a successful businessman for over 50 years, he was also a devoted member and president of the Corsicana Optimist Club, Chamber of Commerce member, a Youth Expo Advocate, and the list goes on. Liston served in the U.S. National Guard and Army Reserve, and was a Mason and Shriner. Liston was proud to be a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a devoted usher and trustee. One of his most prized accomplishments was serving on the Board of Trustees for Navarro College and the Navarro College Education Foundation.
Peggy has been a life-long partner in Liston’s dedication to service. From the beginning, Liston and Peggy were a wonderful team! While Liston was busy at the shop, Peggy inspired many young students and adults to excel in life through her 30 years as an educator. Peggy taught Special Education for Mildred ISD, her alma mater. While teaching, Peggy earned her master’s degree of Education from East Texas State University in 1977. Peggy has served on many boards and children’s councils, and volunteered countless hours in the community. Some of the causes Peggy has served include: First Methodist Church, Special Olympics, Camp of the Rising Sun, Food For Fitness, Young at Heart, Delta Kappa Gamma, Navarro County Retired Teachers Association, the Kinsloe House, Navarro College, and a multitude of community events. She has received many accolades and honors for her dedication as a teacher, but the best rewards are returning former students or acquaintances who thank her for making a positive difference in their lives or for encouraging them to attend Navarro and complete their education. Peggy continues to be active in ranching, her church, and the community she calls home. She is a true difference maker and a great one at that.
Liston and Peggy Herod built a legacy of service and believed in people and all things good. They believed everyone deserved an opportunity, and through hard work and sacrifice, they could succeed. They built a life together that exuded Bulldog Pride and Peggy’s enthusiasm continues on today!
